When is a tablet the right format for a supplement?

A tablet is the right format when the dose is too big for a gummy. Active ingredients can make up 60 to 80 percent of a tablet's weight, up to roughly 2 g per tablet, compared with about 10 percent in a gummy. That is why creatine, multivitamins, electrolytes and mushroom complexes often perform better as a well-designed tablet than as a handful of gummies.

A tablet is also product design, not just compression. Geometry, scoring, coating and how fast it breaks down decide whether people keep taking it. We granulate powders before pressing for smooth, uniform tablets, use natural colors or leave tablets uncolored, and offer chewable tablets with confectionery-style flavor systems for people who will not swallow a pill. Tablets skip the heat step that gummies go through, so a sample and its COA come back quickly.

Tablets we make

High-dose functional tablets

Large-format tablets for creatine, multivitamins, electrolytes and mushroom complexes: a real dose in fewer pieces.

Chewable tablets

Smooth, creamy or crunchy textures with confectionery-style flavor systems, for children's products, sports nutrition and adults who dislike pills.

Film coating

Coating for taste, swallowability and shelf appearance.

Natural colors or none

The market is moving away from synthetic colors, and our tablets already have.

Round, scored or custom shapes

Shape and scoring chosen for the dose and for how people actually take the product.

Taste and texture work

Polyols such as xylitol and mannitol, sweetener systems, bitterness masking and flavor encapsulation for high-load actives.

How a tablet project runs

Brief and format check

Your active and dose, and whether one tablet, two tablets or a different format carries it best.

Formula and sample

No cook and no heat loss, so the sample and its COA come back quickly.

Packaging in parallel

Bottles, pouches or single-serve packs ordered while the formula is finalized.

Production and pack-out

Compression, coating if needed, counting, sealing, labeling and case packing. Tablet projects typically take 1 to 2 months; treat that as an estimate until your proposal.

Questions about tablet manufacturing

Tablet vs capsule: which is better for a supplement?

Neither is better everywhere. Tablets can hold 60 to 80 percent active by weight, can be chewable, coated or scored, and usually cost less per dose at volume. Capsules hold close to 100 percent active with almost no excipients and hide bitter or smelly ingredients completely, but the shell limits how much fits. We choose based on your dose, your ingredient's taste and how your customer will use it.

Can you make chewable tablets?

Yes. Chewables use confectionery-style flavor systems, polyols and sweeteners, with smooth, creamy or crunchy textures. They suit children's products, sports nutrition and anyone who will not swallow a pill.

What is the largest dose that fits in one tablet?

Most supplement tablets are around 800 mg, and a well-designed large-format tablet can carry up to about 2 g. Above that we look at two tablets per serving or a stick pack.

Do your tablets use synthetic colors?

No. We use natural colors or leave tablets uncolored.

How long does tablet manufacturing take?

Typically 1 to 2 months, because tablets have no cook step and samples come back fast. Packaging lead time is usually the longest part, which is why we order it while the formula is finalized.
